- SAMPLER OF DIGITAL ROCK CORE INFORMATION
- FROM THE
- CORE RESEARCH CENTER
-
- SOFTWARE OVERVIEW
-
- The display software and data on this CD-ROM provide a way to
- view and use information stored at the U.S. Geological Survey's
- Core Research Center. The software is menu driven and accesses
- the following information:
-
- * 21 drill hole locations and descriptions.
- * 100 color pictures of the rock core.
- * 44 color pictures of thin sections from the core.
- * 3 electric logs.
-
- The software provides a location map with the following features:
-
- * County boundaries.
- * Primary and secondary roads.
- * Primary and secondary streams.
- * Water bodies such as lakes and reservoirs.
- * Surface geology of Colorado.
- * The ability to annotate and save part of the map.
-
- In addition, a zoom feature and pixel information are provided
- for the displays.
-
- All pictures are derived from scanned photographs of the rock
- core. The scanned images are processed to produce a VGA picture.
- Better picture or image quality may be obtained using more data
- (not provided or available at this time) and more expensive
- hardware. The display software and pictures represent a balance
- between present technology and acceptable cost.
